Exercise 9 - Social Issue Poster

Class,
Due 3/1.

For the final Adobe InDesign project, you are to make your own "Social Issue Poster".

HOWEVER, IF YOU WANT TO MAKE THE POSTER IN ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR YOU MAY.  IN FACT, I WOULD PREFER IT.

The Role of the Poster: The basic difference between the poster and other advertising media is that the poster speaks to the audience “on the move.” Newspaper ads, magazine ads, and mailing pieces such as folders brochures and booklets are designed for the reader who has time to stand or sit and read for a while.  On the other hand, the poster must capture the attention and get the message across in a matter of seconds. It must spark the reader to take the desired action through a brief message packed with punch or veiled in subtlety.

The Purpose of the Poster: While there are literally hundreds of uses for the poster, it will have only one of the four purposes:
(1.)       To announce an event.
(2.)       To promote a service.
(3.)       To sell a product.
(4.)       To develop an attitude.

The poster must be 12" wide x 18" high.

Must have some form of Graphics

No Photos Graphics must be original (if you need to use an Image from a Photo it must be traced out)

Must have two sizes of text (Text and Sub text)

Use Color

Think of the Elements of Design:
Line, Shape, Texture, Space, Size, Value, Color

Incorporate the Principles of Design:
Balance, Rhythm, Emphasis, Unity

Save it as period#_lastname_firstname_9x

Remember to make a JPEG copy of all your work for your portfolio!

Class,
Remember to make a JPEG copy of all of your Adobe InDesign projects for your portfolio!

When you have a project open, say the Newsletter (Exercise 8), go to File > Export

and then be sure to choose JPEG as the format.  Save it to your desktop, or documents or wherever you can find it later to add to your portfolio website (remember at the end of Semester 1?)

St. Valentine's Day Extra Credit - Make it and turn it in today! (2/13 and 2/14)

Class,

In honor of St. Valentine's Day, you may create a drawing for "your sweetheart".  Use Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop and have fun, experiment with the brush tool, import and "place" an image from the internet or do what ever you feel inspires you!

Remember that we are at school so keep it "appropriate".

You only have today (February 13 (or 14 if you are period 1, 3, and 7) to do it.

Name it as period#_lastname_firstname_ec.ai and put it into the Mr. Komar dropbox.

The above images were from a classmate of yours...

Exercise 7 and 8 pushed out one class day to make way for the Extra Credit

Class,
Exercise 7 is now due 2/14
Exercise 8 is now due 2/18

Good Luck.

Exercise 8 - Newsletter, due 2/15

EXERCISE 8 NEWSLETTER

BACKGROUND

Newsletters take many forms.  You have been asked to make a newsletter that has both text and overlapping graphics.  In this exercise, you will learn how to get text to go around graphics and to be on top of graphics.

You will find the files for the exercise in the Mr. Komar Shared folder.

Due 2/15

Exercise 7 - Sporting Event Ticket due 2/8

Background

For this lesson you assemble two master pages and two page spread. The end product in this project is a pair of sample tickets, one for basketball and one for a motocross event.  They are the same in layout and style.  Only the event information, color and background image differ.  A strategic use of master pages eliminates all duplication of effort.

If you want extra credit – make one or both of the tickets for your own event.  However your graphic will have to look good so be sure to use Object > Fitting to make sure the image fits correctly.  You can do it!
