Exercise 6 (Map) -- How to turn in...
Class:
Exercise 6 is due:
September 26 for periods 2, 4
September 27 for periods 1, 3 and 7
In order to receive credit you must turn in your file named correctly. If your file is not named correctly you will not receive credit. If the file is turned in late you will lose credit.
Name your file like this...
period#_lastname_firstname_6x
So, if I were in 3rd period, I would name it
3_komar_paul_6x
In Adobe Illustrator, you must go to File > Save As... and give it the new name.
I can keep track of the period, name and exercise number since I have 158 students.

Exercise 6 -- Map making -- The last exercise for the Quarter! Due September 26
The final exercise for the quarter will be to make a map in Adobe Illustrator.
Maps have obviously been a source of information for thousands of years. Map making is the "world making" on a flat two dimensional surface. The map maker is more than merely providing information, but as a designer laying out the lines and surfaces that will recreate this world for viewers.
Below are three examples of maps made in Adobe Illustrator:
1. Disneyland Park

Your assignment is to make a map in Adobe Illustrator of one of the following locations. Your map must include the following: A title, at least 3 buildings (or structures), some text in a box, more than a couple colors giving the map life.
Here are 5 places you can choose.
1. Washington D.C. Mall
2. Teotihicuan, Mexico
3. Tucson High School
4. Tatooine (City of Mos Eisley)
5. Park Place Mall

This is a good start to your self portrait. You can do this with a pen tool, some time and some color!
Exercise 5 - Self Portrait Due September 14
Today we begin to use Adobe Illustrator to create a SELF PORTRAIT.
---- > Look inside the "Mr. Komar Shared Folder" at the bottom of your screen and find Presentation 3 Self Portrait and Presentation 4 How to Start Self Portrait.
1. Read Presentation 3 Self Portrait to start to familiarize yourself with the project. Do not start drawing until you get a sense for a few of the new tools you will use.
2. Use Presentation 4 How to Start Self Portrait to get started...
New tools include: gradient, opacity, layers and placing a photo to trace as a template.
This will be Exercise 5 due September 14

Exercise 4 - Haida/Navajo/Zuni Update
Class:
Exercise 4 (Haida/Navajo/Zuni/Yours) has been changed so that you only need to turn in 3 drawings. Any additional drawing will be extra credit.
You must copy one image of each of the groups.
Your classmate did this set of drawings...you don't have to do these exact drawings but look how all 3 images got on to one art board.
Or...
You can make 3 art boards for the file...go see Presentation 2 in the shared folder on how to do that.
