Logo Due -- Next Exercise begin today...go on vacation on the web

The Logo Design, exercise 12, is due today, March 22.

You may turn in their file to the Mr. Komar dropbox. I will not accept the exercise after today.

Now to get ready for Adobe Flash...

The new assignment is to use Safari and search the internet for at least 5 photos of a place you would like to visit. For example, students may go and looks for photos of New York city, or Switzerland or Monument Valley, Arizona. You must download 5 files to a folder called “my trip photos” on their computer.

You will be using these images for their first Adobe Flash assignment I will present when we all return from Spring Break.

To save an image on the Mac, you must hover over the image with the mouse cursor, hold the Control key and click the mouse. Then you have the chance to “Save to As...” and they can save the image to a folder of their choice.

Q4 - Exercise 12 : Logo design, due this Friday, March 22

Today a client has called in to ask you to design a logo for their business.

You need to design a logo, a business card and letter head.

1.  You will watch a presentation on the overview of logo and logo design, which is found in the Mr. Komar Shared folder.

2.  Pick a business from below or think of your own (you could even do one for yourself as a graphic design company).

3.  On an 8.5" x 11" paper, you will then HAND DRAW 3 versions of the logo you imagine for the business.  I will not grade any of your work until I first grade the hand drawing.  Remember to put your name and grade number on the sheet.

4.  Use Adobe Ilustrator and the template found in the Mr. Komar Shared folder for creating a logo, a business card and a letter head.  There are 3 Artboards in the template to use.

You must hand draw everything.  No photos dragged in.

5.  Turn in the file as period#_lastname_firstname_12x

You are being graded on creativity, attention to detail, originality, and the other design concepts we reviewed when we worked on the Social Issue poster (exercise 10)

Due March 22, (this Friday)
25 points: Hand drawing
75 points: Adobe file

Potential Client List:  Choose one of the below companies, or come up with your own.

1.  Maine Spray Paint Company:  A company making specialty spray paints that are geared for the urban market (for self proclaimed street artists).
2.  Im Bored:  A surf board company out of Hermosa Beach, California.  They were started by a girl surfer who wants to make surf boards and equipment for the female market.
3.  Oro's Gym:  A gym that has a reclaimed building from the barrio in South Tucson and wants a logo they can use to grow the company.
4.  Badger Coffe House:  An alumni group wants to set up a professional coffee house just down the street from Tucson High School and want to use THS mascot for their shop.
5.  Tohono O'Odham Solar:  A start up company that wants to put solar panels on the tops of the big stores and malls in Tucson to help offset power usage, and save those companies money.

Last Exercise #11 - Due March 13 (period 4) / 14 (periods 1,3,7)

For the LAST assignment of the quarter, please design a poster for the THMS Prom.  Even if you are not going to the prom (who cares, right?) even the graphic designer can help.  Besides, your design may end up on the THMS website for your teacher to use!

Friday, April 19th
7:30pm
Skyline Country Club
Theme: Bollywood

Come up with your own theme if you cannot find the theme of the prom -- maybe the prom committee will change their idea!

Here are the requirements:
1.  Adobe Illustrator or Indesign
2.  8.5" x 11" size
3.  At least 2 Fonts
4.  Some color, some creativity, some drawings
5.  The day, time, location, price per ticket and any other relevant information.

Turn in as period#_lastname_firstname_11x.ai (if Adobe Illustrator)

The assignment is worth 50 points (like the other big projects).

Remember -- you can make the poster EN ESPANOL if you want.

3D Drawing Sample and Suggestions

Class, check out what you can do with 3D drawings in Illustrator!  Your classmate made the above...

OK, so if your drawing is now "showing" the mapped art, then try making a drawing that is very simple -- as in a 1/2 circle or 1/2 box, and then rotate that.  Too many points makes for a tricky design to map.

If you still do not see the image, change the stroke color to "none" and the fill color to the color you want for the line that makes the shape.  The instructions say to do a line color and no fill, but try it reversed.

The globe came from just making 1/2 of a circle.

Last day to take work for Quarter...see below

The last day you can submit work for Q3 is the following:

March 13 for period 4
March 14 for periods 1, 3 and 7

Remember that you lose points if you turn in assignments after the due date but at least you can get partial credit.

Exercise 10 -- Back to Adobe Illustrator with 3D drawing...Due March 8 (Friday)

Class,

So I heard the feedback about the Adobe InDesign exercises and I have decided to take us back to drawing in Adobe Illustrator for the remainder of the semester.  You all seem to get InDesign pretty well!

GO HERE
http://vector.tutsplus.com/tutorials/illustration/create-an-milk-bottle-with-a-funny-cow-label/

For exercise 10, I want you to try following the instructions on this website for producing a 3D Milk Bottle, with cow.

The online exercise has a funny cow hand drawn.  I decided that I liked my photoshop image of a cow that I put into Adobe Illustrator and did the ol' LIVE TRACE to and then used that to "wrap around" the bottle.

For extra credit you can make another 3D object.

Save as period#_lastname_firstname_10x.ai
